Risks of Breast Implant and Breast Augmentation Surgery

Like any other type of surgery or medical procedure, there are potential risks involved with breast augmentation in San Francisco that every prospective patient should familiarize themselves with. One of the more obvious examples is scarring, which is rarely severe, but depending on the type of incision, often visible. Patients are also mildly susceptible to common surgical complications like infection and adverse reactions to anesthesia.

As for the implants themselves, much has been made out of the potential health risks of breast implants, but extensive FDA studies have found many of these concerns (including a supposed link to breast cancer) to be completely unfounded. Still, there are definite risk factors and problems that have been known to arise on occasion, usually requiring a second operation to fix.

Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue around the implant tightens, sometimes making the breasts unusually hard. On rare occasions, breast implants can also rupture or leak, which will result in a noticeable deflation of the breast. Other reported risks include a considerable change in nipple sensitivity, a rippling of the breast tissue, a shifting of the implant, and potential interference with mammogram readings. It's also important to remember that, while a first rate San Francisco breast augmentation surgery can help you achieve what Mother Nature failed to provide, Father Time is a tad harder to defy, and gravity will affect breast implants the same way it effects natural breasts as years go by.
